六本木のアクシスギャラリーで開催中の第二回 国際海洋環境デザイン会議＆エキシビション（一般社団法人3710Labと日本財団との共同開催）。会期中の10月5日（木）に、イギリスを拠点に活躍する2組の海外デザイナーのオンライントークの開催が急遽決定しました！
Tom Dixon
素材の特徴を活かした独創的なクリエーションでその名を世界に轟かせるインテリアデザイナー、トム・ディクソン。
昨年のミラノデザインウィークで、海中で成長させた家具や、既存のデザインに海藻であるアマモを採用したバージョンを発表し、以来新たな素材の可能性の発見や開発に精力的に取り組んでいるトム・ディクソンのプロジェクトについて、みずからプレゼンテーションします。
Tom Dixon（トム・ディクソン）
イギリスのライフスタイルブランド「HABITA」 のディレクターを経て、2002年に自身のデザインスタジオを設立。照明や家具、ホームアクセサリーを展開するブランド「TOM DIXON(トム・ディクソン)」をスタートする。素材そのものの特徴を生かした独創的な創作手法は、一種異端的でありながら自身のルーツでもある工業的なアプローチを体現するものである。代表作にウィングバックチェア、ビートライトシリーズなど。www.tomdixon.tokyo
Gomi Design
プラスチック廃棄物を素材にした美しいマーブル模様のスピーカーを手がけたデザインスタジオ、Gomiからトム・ミードが登壇。
20代半ばという若きデザイナー集団たちは、広いデザイン分野の中でもイノベーションスピードの速いテック産業を舞台に活躍。そんな彼らが日々向き合う海洋問題とデザインの役割について、またそこから生まれたGomiスピーカーの背景についてトークを行います。
Gomi Design（ゴミ・デザイン）
イギリスのブライトンを拠点に、2017年にトム・ミードらで設立されたデザインスタジオ。廃棄物を資源として美しく機能的なデザインに蘇らせることに取り組んでいる。プラスチック廃棄物から作られた持続可能なポータブル・スピーカーやハイテク・アクセサリーの少量生産からスタートし、2022年にはワイヤレス・スピーカー「collection one」を開発、発売。廃棄物を原材料に使用するだけでなく、完全なリサイクルまで、生涯埋め立てを回避することに取り組んでいる。

October 5 (Thu,) 18:00 at Axis Gallery, Roppongi
The 2nd International Conference & Exhibition on Design for Ocean Environments (co-hosted by 3710Lab and the Nippon Foundation) is currently being held at the Axis Gallery in Roppongi. On October 5 (Thu.) during the exhibition, an online talk by two UK-based international designers will be held at the venue.
On the day of the talk, the Axis Gallery, the venue of the exhibition, will be connected with the two designers online.
The first talk is by Tom Dixon, an interior designer who has made a name for himself around the world with his original creations that make the most of the characteristics of materials.
At last year’s Milan Design Week, Tom Dixon presented furniture grown in the sea and a version of an existing design that uses eelgrass, a seaweed, and since then he has been actively discovering and developing new material possibilities.
The second speaker is Tom Meades from Gomi Design, a design studio that has created a beautiful marbled speaker made from plastic waste.
These young designers, all in their mid-20s, are active in the tech industry, which is one of the most innovative and fast-paced design fields in the world. They will talk about the role of design in the ocean issues they face every day, and the background of the Gomi speakers who were born from these issues.
Please join us for this special talk event where these designers, who are active on the world stage, will introduce their own ways of dealing with the ocean.
